In 2003, nations involved in the diamond trade established a global certification system to control the export and import of rough diamonds. Today, Kimberley Process members account for approximately 99.8% of global production of uncut diamonds. This extensive certification process ensures that diamonds are among the most monitored and audited natural resources in the world, effectively preventing conflict diamonds from entering the supply chain by isolating non-participating countries from the global diamond market.
