Common Jewelry Repairs

  • Prong Repair: Strengthening worn prongs to prevent gemstone loss.
  • Chain Repair: Fixing broken or weakened chain links, clasps, or pendants.
  • Ring Shanking: Replacing worn sections of ring shanks for long-lasting durability.

Ring Repair

Given how often rings are worn and subjected to everyday surfaces, it's no surprise that ring repair is one of the most common services we offer. Over time, the constant friction between the ring and hard surfaces like doorknobs and countertops can lead to metal fatigue or erosion. These gradual effects can cause prongs, shanks, and clasps to weaken, making the jewelry more prone to breakage.

In some cases, a simple soldering job can repair a broken ring. However, if there is significant wear, we may recommend replacing a portion of the shank, known as "shanking." This involves cutting out the worn section and adding fresh metal, perfectly matching the existing gold or platinum.

Types of Ring Repair:
  • Simple Soldering: Fixing breaks in rings with minimal wear.
  • Shanking: Replacing worn sections of a ring with fresh metal to restore its structure.
  • Intricate Design Restoration: Resurrecting delicate elements in vintage rings, such as filigree or design patterns.

Prong Repair

Prong Repair

Prong repair is one of the most critical services we offer, as prongs are responsible for holding precious stones in place. Over time, prongs can erode from constant contact with surfaces, which increases the risk of losing a gemstone. We always encourage customers to bring in their jewelry for regular inspections to catch signs of prong wear before it’s too late.

When prongs are worn but not yet broken, we may "retip" the prong, which involves adding metal to reinforce it. In cases of severe wear, replacing the entire head or prong system may be necessary to ensure the gemstone remains securely in place.

Types of Prong Repair:
  • Retipping: Adding metal to worn prongs to reinforce them.
  • Head Replacement: Replacing the entire setting for maximum gemstone security.

Jewelry Restoration

For more complex cases, like vintage jewelry restoration, our jewelers use a combination of traditional techniques and modern technology to carefully restore the piece without compromising its original character. Whether it’s reworking delicate filigree designs or restoring worn settings, our team is adept at bringing your treasured heirlooms back to life.
